Townsville workshops: Knowing the facts to act

26th October 2016 •   posted in

The Act on Alcohol team have been out and about during May, promoting the service and running workshops.

Team members, Shane and Caroline delivered the Knowing the Facts to Act: Introductory workshop to Act on Alcohol at the Reid Park complex in Townsville. These workshops gave locals information about the drinking guidelines, standard drink serves, alcohol-related harms and strategies of prevention.

The 24 people that attended the workshops took part in activities and discussions to enhance learning and to network with others.

One of the activities involved comparing a guesstimated alcohol standard drink size with an actual standard drink. Some people were surprised by the volume of standard serves of beer, wine, bubbles and spirits. All agreed that when at home, or out at venues, they would pour or expect more in their glass.

The group shared and gained information about the alcohol guidelines and learnt how they can act on alcohol in their local communities and organisations. The group discussed local issues and made new connections.

The Act on Alcohol team would like to thank all those in Townsville who attended and made us feel welcome.  We’ll be heading out across Queensland to deliver more workshops and training over the next 12 months, so keep a look out for when we are in a town near you!
